Canadian Fraudster Claims Gambling Problem to Blame for Scams

Canadian scammer blames his criminal record on gambling addiction.

Shaun Nixon, one of Canada’s most famous online fraudsters, has vowed to change his ways after he started serving a new two-year sentence at the Maplehurst Correctional Complex located in Milton, Ontario.

The 34-year-old was sentenced to two years in prison on 3rd July having pleaded guilty to a number of charges that include breach of probation and defrauding of public. This will be Nixon’s fourth spell in a correctional facility as he also served time in 2007, 2011 and 2012.

The former student at the Mohawk College has so far scammed thousands of people via the internet, using advertisement websites Craigslist and Kijiji to sell fake tickets to major concerts and top sports events.

Nixon has been using the same scam for some ten years, with buyers sending him cash for pricey tickets, only to lose any contact with the man afterwards.

The Canadian has been representing himself as Shaun Michael, Adam Carson and Ryan Robertson to avoid getting caught and he admits it was all too easy for him to rob people of their hard-earned money.

Nixon explained that he usually posted ads with the same text that says that he and his wife cannot attend the event despite buying the tickets, while occasionally changing minor details.

Various victims of his scams have come forward following the latest arrest, often referring to Nixon as someone who sounded like he can be trusted.

Nixon Reveals He Is a Gambling Addict

Having just started serving his fourth jail sentence, the Hamilton native has said that he does not plan to perform the scam ever again, while blaming his wrongdoings on the gambling addiction.

Nixon claims he has been a pathological gambler ever since first visiting Casino Rama back in 2004 and he is adamant that is the main reason why he started conning people in the first place.

The 34-year-old plans to ask for help in an attempt to battle the addiction and ensures this is the last time he serves jail time, while revealing he is going to be transferred to a different institution to receive counselling.

Nixon has also moved to apologize to his victims, but there will not be too many persons taking him seriously after ten years of blatant scamming.
