University of Nevada to Introduce Master’s Program in Gambling Regulations
- January 7, 2015 By Nemanja L. -
The University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV) is set to become the first ever educational institution to offer a master’s degree program in gambling law and regulations, according to the latest reports.
It is hardly surprising that UNLV already houses a number of courses linked to the gaming industry given that Nevada and Las Vegas in particular remains one of world’s most famous gaming destinations.
The University is now set to expand their offering by creating a master’s degree program that will be entirely focused on the latest legal framework in the gambling industry.
Program to be Held at William S. Boyd School of Law
The new program will launch in the fall semester of 2015 at the UNLV’s William S. Boyd School of Law. Both domestic and foreign students who hold an existing Juris Doctor Law degree will be eligible to enrol in the latest master’s program.
Dan Hamilton, dean of said academic institution, believes the new program will increase the number of gaming attorneys in Nevada, and thus help the casinos across the state cope with the ever-changing gaming laws and regulations.
According to Hamilton, the program should be completed within a year and it will contain courses on federal gaming law as well as Indian gaming.
With the William S. Boyd School of Law surrounded by Las Vegas’ most famous casino resorts, finding gambling law experts that would educate students is unlikely to be a problem.
Seeing as how the gambling industry continues to evolve, the program aims to cover the depths of gaming law through a selection of courses that would prepare future gaming lawyers for the trials and tribulations of the real world.
Some of the subjects the classes will cover include sports betting, online gaming, anti-money laundering guidelines, data privacy as well as research and treatment of problem gaming behaviour.
UNLV chiefs hope the new program will soon become one of their most popular programs, due to the university’s resources and a number of highly skilled industry experts in the vicinity.
Once they complete the aforementioned program, the students will have a number of job opportunities to explore, given they can represent law firms representing casinos, work in casinos’ legal departments or work as regulators in the US or abroad.
