£53 Million Lottery Winner Back to Serving Lunch for Pensioners
- April 9, 2015 By Nemanja L. -
Angela Maxwell has continued volunteering at a Coningsby Community Hall in Lincolnshire mere days after winning staggering £53 million EuroMillions jackpot with her husband in the National Lottery.
The 67-year-old resumed her five-hour shifts making lunch for pensioners just a week after she was informed by her husband of the hefty lottery payout.
Richard Maxwell found out of the jackpot win when he took a break from doing garage work with builders to check the results via the National Lottery website.
Mr Maxwell called Camelot almost instantly to confirm he has the winning numbers, but did not notify his wife until she returned from her work some four hours later.
Mrs Maxwell was returning from one of the shifts in the community hall when she was notified of the win. She did not believe her husband at first, thinking he was playing an April’s Fools’ Day joke, but things changed when she saw the numbers on the National Lottery website.
“I just didn’t believe it, then he showed me the numbers on the website and I dropped the basket of tea towels on the floor,” Mrs Maxwell was quoted as saying. “I then just sat down in the chair for about half-an-hour stunned.”
No Major Changes to Lifestyle Planned
The pair has no plans to significantly alter their everyday life in spite of the mind-blowing win, and they aim to buy a new minibus to further help the pensioners in the community.
Mrs Maxwell has no intention to stop working at the community lunch club where pensioners are able to get a two course meal for mere £3.
The pair had already planned a family trip to New Zealand and they will only upgrade the travel arrangements and accommodation to first class in light of the lottery win.
Richard Maxwell is a huge golf enthusiast and he aims to tour the world watching major golf tournaments, and while his wife is ready to follow him, she is unlikely to be watching any sport in the process.
