German Casino Goers Prefer Roulette to Slot Games

German gamers enjoy Roulette and Slots in land-based establishments.

The residents of Germany appear to be enjoying an occasional visit to one of numerous casino establishments spread across the country, a new survey has showed.

German casino association Deutscher Spielbankenverband (DSbV) has tasked YouGov with conducing a survey to access the trends in the local casino industry and the report has revealed some interesting numbers.

One third of participants in the survey admitted to have placed a casino wager at least once in the past, with 39% of men and 28% of women giving a positive answer, and figures in West Germany (34%) higher than in East Germany (28%).

At the moment, Germany has no fewer than 66 casino establishments, featuring a total of 7,500 slot machines and around 550 gaming tables. Said casinos have generated €556 million in revenue last year, €399 million of which came from slot machines.

However, even though slots generate by far the most revenue when compared to other casino games, the report has shown that Roulette was the most popular game in Germany, as almost two thirds of respondents confessed to playing Roulette as opposed to half of them enjoying slot titles.

Even if that is not exactly the norm, male gamers (53%) enjoyed slots more than female players (43%), with the numbers similar for Blackjack (18% vs 12%) and poker (8% vs 4%).

Slots More Popular with Millennials 

Nevertheless, the millennials appear to have been left impressed by the latest feature-rich slot machines as 66% gamers under the age of 29 have played slots, as opposed to 45% of them playing Roulette.

The interesting thing is that United States millennials, for example, prefer table games to slot machines in land-based casino establishments.

Deutscher Spielbankenverband CEO Otto Wolferding went on to suggest that casino gambling has become very popular with the younger generation of German citizens, although a study back in April showed that younger players prefer online casinos to traditional brick and mortar venues.
