Nothing really says Christmas like a whole bunch of snow in an idyllic village with presents, treats and snowmen. And as such, RTG brings us a 5 reel, 20 payline slot just in time for the holidays, starring what has to be the most adorable snowman sitting off to the side. But the winter coat does not change that between the cascading reels, a charming side character, and similar gameplay, this is yet another Gonzo’s Quest clone.
But we are not complaining too much. We loved Gonzo and his shenanigans, and RTG bringing more of it wrapped up in a Christmassy theme fits just fine with us. Carrots, gingerbread men, santa hats, bells and stockings filled with candy, all frozen in ice cubes fill this game, and that is not even mentioning the special icons!

Wilds also come encased in ice, with the word Ice Wild written in. They appear on reels 2, 3 and 4, and can replace any other symbol. Scatters come dressed up as presents, and have quite a treat for you if you manage to land 3 or more of them in a row from left to right.

HOW TO PLAY

Snowmania has a lovely user interface that really sells the winter wonderland theme. Everything is white or a shade of icy blue, while the text is a light green or purple, making it stand out without looking like a horrific eyesore to the player.

You can play RTG’s winter release for as little as $0.20 up to $200. Thanks to the cascading reels and an increasing multiplier, wins can pile on top of each other very quickly, allowing you to reach the jackpot of $50,000 if you are extremely lucky.

And as we have come to expect from RTG, there is also a nice, detailed Autoplay option. Adjust it to your liking, double check everything is how it should be, and let the reels spin away while you drink in the Christmas theme.

OTHER FEATURES

As you play the slot, winning symbols break away, and new icons fall in their place. The cascading reels are a great system, especially when paired with a multiplier. The more sliding wins you get, the more the multiplier climbs, up to a maximum of x5 in normal gameplay.

Bonus Round

Three or more Scatters will give you ten free spins. The base multiplier increases by x3, so while the bonus round is active, you could reach up to x15 after the reels collapse enough times. And to make things even better, you can retrigger free spins while the special feature is active, which will give you 5 additional spins.

Scatter Symbol

Scatters only serve to activate and retrigger the bonus round, with no extra features added to them. While they are nice to look at, they offer nothing but the special free spins.

Jackpot

As we already mentioned above, the jackpot for the slot is $50,000, even though you can theoretically go higher. With the right luck, you could keep collapsing symbols one on top of another, piling on larger and larger wins in free spins, and reach well above $50,000. However, you will not be paid out any money above that number.

RTG’s winter release took precaution not to be too festive this holiday, and locks your winnings to that number, even if you go beyond it. But, in our experience, reaching it is a stretch, due to the low chance at free spins appearing in the game.

SNOWMANIA ON MOBILE

There is not much to say about the mobile version of the slot. Apart from minor adjustments to make sure the user interface fits for tablets and phones, there have been no visible changes.

It can feel somewhat clunky at times, but most of the time Snowmania has played smoothly for us.
