ABOUT TRANSYLVANIA SLOTS
The idea of playing a slot about ancient vampires lurking in the shadows of the Romanian region of Transylvania appealed a lot to us at first sight. Infamous as the home place of count Dracula, we felt that this Topgame release could really deliver and bring forward something unique and satisfying.
However, despite our love for this 5 reel, 20 payline slot with quite a few fun special features lurking about, there were some misses that we felt brought the game down compared to what it could have been.
Our first pick goes with the music. It put us right in the mood when we first started up the game, but leave it idling too much, and the repeating blows of the horn will stick in your head. And while it was a bit too repetitive for our tastes, the symbols in Topgame’s release were anything but. Credit where it is due, as each symbol is wonderfully drawn and top tier icons are even animated, which makes for a gorgeous looking slot.
Special symbols also benefit from the animations, and they will all make an impactful presence on your game. Wilds come in the shape of werewolves, and can replace all icons except the Scatter. On top of that, Wilds are the highest paying symbol in the game. Scatters come in shape of haunted houses, and activate a free spins bonus. And finally, the spider Bonus icons act as another Scatter that can activate a special gameplay mode.
HOW TO PLAY
The user interface in Transylvania is something we equally love and dislike at the same time. Spinning the reels feels heavy when they slam down, the bottom half of the screen looks in place with blood gems, books and chests open in front of you, with a fantastic looking backdrop with candles and drapes.
That said, it also feels cluttered. We actively felt like it was somewhat distracting from the main event on the reels because it was so bulky and in your face. It’s a great concept, and we want to see more of it, but it needs a bit of refinement.
The Topgame slot can be played for as little as $0.20 up to $100 by adjusting the bet level and active paylines. This wide range is certain to impress casual players, while the possibility of large, mouth-watering wins is certain to draw the high roller crowd willing to spend a lot to gain a lot more.
The slot also features an Autoplay mode, but it felt lacklustre in implementation. You can adjust it to spin between five to one thousand times, and while the range is impressive, it lacks a loss limit, stopping on specials, and the like.
OTHER FEATURES
Bonus Round
Three or more Scatters will trigger the bonus game. Scatters grant you twelve bonus rounds, and can increase your multiplier by up to 10x. Additionally, the spider icons can also activate a bonus round, in which you are taken to a separate screen.
Once there, you have a multi-stage playground, in which you choose between several objects, after that, you pick a door to go through, and finally, a coffin to rest in. Each of these grants you a cash prize, so pick carefully!
Scatter Symbol
Scatters do not have much going for them except their use in activating the free spins, but their gorgeous appearance will probably make you happy seeing them either way.
Jackpot
The largest win currently in the slot is $500,000 by playing on the max wager and all paylines active, and you gain it by getting 5 Wilds across the reels. You could potentially even reach higher if you received five Wilds while the free spins bonus was active, which often comes paired with a multiplier.
