New Jersey Online Gambling Goes Up in April

- May 16, 2017 By Riley Wilson -

New Jersey casinos enjoy good April results

New Jersey operators enjoy very good April results thanks to increase in online gaming revenue.

New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has released the April data, which shows that online operators in the Garden state have a lot of reason to be positive when 2017 is in question.

Although the result wasn’t a record-breaking one, a double-digit increase in comparison with the same month of last year is hardly a disappointing achievement.

Much Better Than Last Year

In April, state’s online gambling operators recorded a $20.8 million in revenue – 22.6% more than in April of 2016, and around $900,000 short of March 2017 record.

Online casino operations are to “blame” for such a result, since they generated $18.85 million, 31% up year-on-year, while last month’s revenue was $1 million higher.

No Change at the Top

The title of the state’s top earner is still in the hands of the Golden Nugget’s online operations, which also include the operations of the UK-based Betfair and SugarHouse Casino from the neighbouring Pennsylvania.

Around $5.4 million is a 64% increase over April 2016, but when compared to the March record of $6.17 million – it’s a 12.5% drop.

The runner up was the Borgata family of websites, with the revenue of $4.2 million. Their result was 5% up year-on-year, but also a bit lower than in March (3.5%). 14.3% of all the money earned in April came from the Borgata poker operations, a decline of around 8% from $650,000 in March.

The Borgata could challenge the Golden Nugget soon, since the casino owner, MGM Resorts, are teaming up with PartyPoker to launch an online poker and casino operations. The new operations would be launched under the playMGM brand and could significantly improve the casino results.

The Tropicana earned $3.94 million. Their casino-only site recorded a solid 34% increase when compared to April 2016, but it’s also interesting that Tropicana managed to outscore March, though only slightly.

In April, Resorts Digital Gaming earned $3.77 million – 10.5% less than in March, while poker and casino revenue dropped by 13% and 10% respectively.

Last, at least when it comes to ranking, but definitely not the least is Caesars Interactive Entertainment New Jersey (CIENJ), which managed to improve a bit since March (11% to $3.5 million), but while casino operations recorded a healthy growth, poker operations were down nearly 17%.
