What is SWIMA?

SWIMA is a non-profit organisation with the sole aim of ensuring a secure and safe betting environment for US sports bettors. It will be fully funded by operators in all regulated gambling markets in the US, which will not need any funding at all from taxpayers, states, sports leagues or the federal government.

Its principal goal is the protecting the stakeholders, operators and, most importantly, players from potential fraud and unfair manipulation of sports betting events. Its core objectives are as follows: protecting sports betting’s integrity by detecting discouraging activities and bad actors that profit from unfair betting, and providing a secure and safe betting environment for all players in the regulated US markets.

Which Are the Members of SWIMA?

The SWIMA’s Board of Delegates initial members include major sports betting operators, but the expectations are that all operators will eventually join since sports betting is slowly becoming regulated in more and more jurisdictions.

For now, MGM Resorts International’s& Chief Compliance Officer & Senior Vice President Stephen Martino, which was also the chief gaming regulator in Kansas and Maryland, along with Caesars’ Executive Vice President of Public Policy and Corporate Responsibility, which was the Mayor of Las Vegas, will take the role as SWIMA’s first Board of Trustees.

The Deputy Director of the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement and former Assistant Attorney General, George Rover is appointed as SWIMA’s Chief Integrity Officer, who will be responsible for SWIMA’s day-to-day functions, expressed his excitement for ensuring a safe and secure betting for players across the country with the launch of the first integrity monitoring association in the country. He added that they look forward to partnering with law enforcement and gaming regulators in all states that have legalized sports betting, and undermine manipulation and fraud, as well as protect the integrity of sports betting.

What Is AGA’s Point of View?

The Senior Vice President of Public Affairs for the AGA, Sara Slane, welcomed SWIMA saying that its formation serves another major milestone toward the realization of a regulated and legal sports betting market in the US, which provides players with increased transparency and protection and provides local and state governments with extra tax revenues.

She additionally commented that this announcement comes at a critical time since dozens of sovereign tribal nations and states are set to pursue legal and regulated sports betting next year. As it moves forward, SWIMA will become the hub for all stakeholders to start working together and further demonstrate industry’s dedication and commitment to keep the integrity across all aspects of a regulated and legal sports betting market.
