African Legends by Microgaming - Slingshot Studios
Progressive online slots are admittedly a bit of a niche, but Microgaming has a firm hold over the said niche. They are the most successful makes of progressive slot games purely on the back of Mega Moolah. They do have other progressives, though, and now they’ve teamed up with Slingshot Studios to bring you African Legends.
This new slot game promises to address a lot of the issues common to progressive slots. For example, they tend to suffer when it comes to originality. The Jackpots are generally a focus for progressive slots, to the detriment of everything else. Also, they’ve been known to have horrible RTP ratings compared to regular old slots.
Slingshot African Legends have a whole host of special features, some of which are quite interesting. First of all, it’s a Megaways-like game and boasts no less than 243 betways. This might just be one of the first Megaways progressive slots. The 94.92% RTP rate is also fairly solid by progressive slot standards.
The theme, as one might expect, paces the players in the wilds of the African Jungle. While the concept is a bit of a cliché at this point, the visual design of African Legends slots makes up for the fact. Most symbols are presented as stone tablets depicting animals, which looks great. Again – it’s not exactly original, but the execution is exceptional.
How to Play
Essentially, what we have here is a 5-reel, 3-row Megaways slot. This means that winning combinations can be arranged no matter which row the symbols appear on. Of course, you still have to have at least 3 of them from left to right, starting on the first reel. Overall, this gives the African Legends slot game a fairly hit chance of over 32%.
As always, there is also a Wild golden mask symbol. It replaces any other – except the scatter – and is also the most high-paying symbol of them all. More importantly, though, this game’s true standout feature is the so-called Rolling Reels. These are your standard cascading symbols like you’ve probably seen before. Whenever a winning combination is hit, the winning symbols disappear and new ones roll down from the top to replace them. Such a mechanic has never been implemented on a progressive slot game before.
Other Features
Most of Slingshot African Legends features are tied to the cascading symbols. First of all, consecutive wins in a single spin award multipliers. The first roll offers a 2x multiplier while going all the way up to 7 can grant a 10x.
Furthermore, 4 or more cascades award free spins. 12, 15, 18, and 20 African Legends free spins are awarded on 4, 5, 6, and 7 rolls respectively.
Most importantly, these are the key to winning the Jackpot. Should you ever be lucky enough to get 8 rolls on a single spin, you’ll instantly win the so-called Wow Major Jackpot. At the time of the writing of this Microgaming African Legends review, the jackpot is sitting at around €400,000. While not as insane as, say, Mega Moolah, it’s plenty of incentive to keep spinning.
