£33M Jackpot Winner Accidentally Washes Winning Ticket
- January 26, 2016 By Nemanja L. -
Worcester resident has found that she could miss out on the staggering £33,000,000 payout as she accidentally washed the winning ticket, with the worst thing being that it could take up to five months for the final decision to be made.
Susanne Hinte probably believed she was one of the world’s luckies people as she became one of two winners of the £66 million National Lottery jackpot earlier this month, the highest ever payout on said game.
However, the excitement probably didn’t last long as the 48-year-old woman found out that she had washed the winning ticket together with a pair of jeans it was in, meaning that she now faces an uphill task of persuading the National Lottery chiefs that she should be awarded the bumper payout nonetheless.
Winning Numbers Visible, Bar Code & Serial Number Missing
Hinte’s daughter has moved to reveal that the winning numbers on the ticket are still legible, but the problem is that the ticket bar code, date and serial number are no longer visible.
As a result, the National Lottery operator Camelot has refused to say whether the woman will be allowed to cash in on her winning ticket.
The company has since asked the grandmother of four to submit the ticket and at the same time disclose other important information, such as when and where she bought the ticket and whether she selected the winning numbers herself or let the machine do the job for her.
Decision to be Made in July
Even after submitting the required details, the woman in question faces an anxious wait that could last up to five months as Camelot has revealed that it will not make the final decision before July, when the 180-day deadline for submitted a jackpot claim is due to expire.
There are no doubts that there will be quite a few people looking to take advantage of Mrs Hinte’s mistake by submitting their own claims in months to come.
Said jackpot win has brought the 48-year-old nothing but trouble so far as she is not only devastated to have washed the winning ticket, but has already been asked to provide financial help for strangers who found out about her win.
