Garbage Man Wins £1.3 Million Share of Scoop6 Jackpot
- May 27, 2014 By Nemanja L. -
Craig Brazier, of Mansfield Woodhouse, Notts, has landed a massive £1.3 million jackpot having correctly guessed the winners of six horse racing events on Saturday.
Garbage man Craig Brazier staked mere £2 on Scoop6 betting pool that required bettors to pick winners in all six races held on Saturday. The man from Nottinghamshire became one of just eight punters with six winning selections, landing a top prize of £1,342,599 in the process.
And while he always believed in his choices, Brazier admits he almost didn’t place the bet at all as he had planned to spend the money on maggots while preparing for a fishing trip.
“I was going to buy more maggots but decided to do the Scoop6 and spent half an hour in the bookies studying the form,” he was quoted as saying. “I went home and watched the racing.
“My wife Tracy was asleep on the settee and I started panicking after I got three out of three.
“After the fourth winner I went and told her but she said: ‘you aren’t lucky enough’ and dozed off.
“My last horse Chatez runs for Alan King, my favourite-ever trainer. I couldn’t see the telly because I was running round the room riding the horse. I thought I’d have a heart attack.”
While the combination of good luck and horse racing knowledge was behind the bumper payout, Brazier has produced quite a coup by picking all six winners, with his first selection Bear Behind a 16/1 shot.
Joyeuse and Johnny Cavagin had the shortest odds on the betting slip of 3/1, with final selection Chatez priced at 7/1. The total jackpot fund of £10,740,796 was shared between eight lucky winners, with each of them pocketing just over £1.3 million.
Craig Brazier was the only winner whose identity was revealed, with the remaining punters opting to stay anonymous. The bin cleaner from Nottinghamshire insists he will not be leaving his day job in spite of the big win, although he did admit he planned to buy a racehorse trained by Alan King, his favourite trainer.
About Scoop6 Jackpot
Scoop6 is one of the largest tote betting pools giving punters a chance to land life-changing payouts for a £2 stake. The main idea is to pick six winners from as many races on Saturday’s meetings, and these are usually televised events to make things even more interesting.
The winners share the Scoop6 jackpot fund, which is usually well above £1,000,000, while they also get a chance to win the Scoop6 bonus by picking the winner of a race on the following weekend. Punters also receive a payout if all six of their selections place (finish in top 3). Similar to lottery, the jackpot fund is carried over to the next week in case there are no winners on a particular week.
