Leicester City Fan Lands £72k Payout on Pre-Season Prediction
- March 8, 2016 By Nemanja L. -
Leicester City fans must have been delighted to see Claudio Ranieri’s men become the Premier League title favourites despite being predicted a relegation dogfight, but one Foxes supporter had another cause for celebration.
Namely, having bravely placed a £50 bet with Ladbrokes on Leicester City to lift the Premier League trophy at odds of 5,000/1 before the season started, he was in line to land staggering £250,000 if the Foxes remained in the top position at the end of the current campaign.
But, he rather decided it was time to cash out, securing a £72,335.89 cashout a couple of months before the season was going to end.
He made the decision after reading another Leicester City fan cash out £29,000, doing so despite the fact that the Foxes boasted a three-point advantage at the top of the standings.
“I’m ecstatic, I read the papers on Saturday morning and thought it’s time to cash out. Win or lose the league, I’m looking forward to the rest of the season ahead. It will mean so much if we win so there’s no point in being greedy,” the lucky punter confessed.
“The odds are constantly changing; even Chelsea could sneak into the top 4 at the last minute. I’ll be celebrating tonight hopefully after beating Watford. A holiday to Spain is a certainty followed by paying off the mortgage with the winnings.”
The men obviously wanted to remain anonymous, but he could have secured a much better payout had he only waited a couple of more days before cashing in.
Namely, with title rivals Arsenal and Spurs sharing spoils in the North London Derby at White Hart Lane, Leicester City’s win over Watford saw them move five points clear at the top with nine games to go.
About Leicester’s Remarkable Title Challenge
After the team narrowly avoided relegation last season by recording seven wins in last nine fixtures, the club chiefs decided to appoint Claudio Ranieri as the new boss and pleaded with him to remain even if the team get relegated next term.
Little did they know that the Foxes would enjoy a tremendous start to the season that saw them climb to the Premier League summit, becoming everyone’s favourite team in the process.
Led by the impressive Riyad Mahrez, Jamier Vardy and N’Golo Kante, the team exhibited an incredible team spirit and coped remarkably well with the pressure of expectations to come on the verge of producing one of the biggest shocks in sporting history.
The Foxes have all but secured an unlikely Champions League qualification, but they are determined to go all the way and realise their dream of lifting the Premiership trophy.
