Microgaming Opens Its New Isle of Man HQ
- August 15, 2017 By Riley Wilson -
One of the leading names in the online gambling industry, Microgaming, officially opened its new headquarters in the capital of the Isle of Man, Douglas.
The construction of the new building, located right next to the existing HQ, began in April 2015. The five-storey edifice is named Sixty Two and is joined with the existing building via a sky bridge, housing over 100 Microgaming’s employees.
The new 45,000 square feet HQ has 16 meeting rooms, hot desks, and phone boots, while the fourth floor of the building features a canteen and a coffee shop, but also dart boards, pool tables, a poker table, table tennis table and even a library.
There is also a gym, a treatment room, and a fitness studio, while the rooftop garden offers an amazing view of the island located in the Irish Sea between England and Ireland.
An Example of Sustainability
Microgaming’s Chief Financial Officer, John Coleman, said it was incredibly satisfying to see Sixty Two finally open. He stated the company had spent a lot of time understanding what the employees needed and wanted, in order to create a building that would suit their needs and offer a dynamic environment where they would feel comfortable.
The new Microgaming HQ is the first environmentally friendly building on the Isle of Man, and also the first one to achieve BREEAM rating of Excellent, which comes as the ultimate statement of the company’s commitment to sustainability.
The building is energy efficient, with smart lighting, its own waste management, and recycling facilities. Nothing gets thrown away – materials used during construction were used once again to build new furniture and even the cups at the café are reusable.
Chief Executive Officer, Roger Raatgever remembered when the company arrived on the island in 2001 with only six employees. He said the opening of the new HQ was an exciting new chapter for Microgaming and expressed his pleasure with all the company’s achievements in the last 16 years.
Think Globally, Act Locally
Microgaming used locally-based businesses and workforce whenever and wherever it was possible. Apart from hiring Manx companies such as Auldyn Construction Limited, Bell Burton Associates, Curtins, March Consultants Limited and SMS (IOM) Ltd, Microgaming employed local architects Savage & Chadwick, which had the leading role in designing the building.
Claire Coleman, Isle of Man-based interior designer was in charge of creating unique pieces including the reception desk, the scaffold table, library and the building sign on the outside.
All these installations were produced by a local company Macro Metal, while all the graphics which can be seen throughout the building, were made by The Hive and later installed by Vivid Ltd.
