NetEnt to Develop the First Real Money VR Slot
- February 8, 2017 By Oliver Young -
NetEnt is one of the leading casino software providers. The Swedish company has long been recognised as the one of the most innovative companies in the industry and one of their key priorities is creating innovative and original solutions.
NetEnt’s games have been regarded as the most graphically refined games on the market. NetEnt has also been one of the leading mobile casino game developers. Last year, they launched the mobile version of NetEnt’s Live Casino. Now the company is willing to go one step further. It has been announced that the Swedish developer is working on the production of the first real money Virtual Reality slot game.
Gonzo’s Quest Will Have the Honour of Becoming the First VR Slot
Many experts have claimed that VR will be the next big thing in the gaming industry. NetEnt’s rival Microgaming has already launched a VR Roulette game, and last year the first VR casino app was launched. NetEnt realised that this is the perfect moment for the company to start its venture into the land of opportunities that is VR technology, believing that VR technology will undoubtedly lift the gaming experience to a new level.
It seems that people at NetEnt have chosen the right game for this purpose. The ultimately popular Gonzo’s Quest slot, based on the story of the famous Conquistador Gonzalo Pizarro, will be the first real money VR slot. It has been claimed that by the end of 2017 the VR technology will be sufficiently advanced so that, at least a basic VR gameplay could be developed.
At a gaming conference last year, NetEnt mentioned VR real money gaming technology as one of the five key concepts that they will be working on in the future. The company has already developed a free play demo VR version of another popular slot game, Jack and the Beanstalk which was aimed to show how the new technology could change the whole industry. A prototype of the VR version of Gonzo’s Quest will be presented very soon. NetEnt’s CEO said that this will be a milestone for the company.
VR Gaming is the Future of the Industry
Virtual reality is an area of technology that has been extensively researched in the last few decades, as many stakeholders realised its potential. Last year Oculus Rift was released and so were few other VR headsets and it became clear that this is a direction in which gaming as a whole, not just casino gaming, will be going.
The online gambling industry is always keen on following the technological advances that have been introduced in the conventional gaming industry and therefore it is not at all surprising that many casino software developers are showing particular interest in VR.
There was a recent report which shows that the VR casino gambling industry is destined to grow into an industry worth half a billion by 2021. It seems that VR technology has the potential to become not only an alternative for those who are looking for non-conventional gaming experience, but pretty much the norm in the not-so-distant future.
Therefore it is clear that the developers who make the first steps will have the upper hand over their competition.
