Singapore Residents Could Soon be Placing Online Bets
- September 15, 2016 By Nemanja L. -
Singapore residents may finally be allowed to place their bets via online channels as two operators have applied to be exempt from the Remote Gambling Act.
Singapore Pools were hoping to launch their online website ahead of the Euro 2016 finals, but they eventually failed to meet the deadline.
Nevertheless, the state-owned lottery operator hope to make things right and launch their site in the second half of October.
The Straits Times claims that two lottery companies, the other being Singapore Turf Club are wrapping up their betting platforms and sorting out final details as they hope to be exempt from said RGA.
The Remote Gambling Act of 2014 bans all online gambling websites in Singapore, apart from those whose earnings are mostly used to finance charitable and social causes.
Singapore Pools and Singapore Turf Club are both non-profit companies, overseen by the Ministry of Finance’s Singapore Tote Board, meaning there is a good chance they will succeed in their quest.
Ministry of Home Affairs Reviewing Applications
The Ministry of Home Affairs is currently reviewing the applications submitted by the two high-profile operators and they should soon announce the result.
While both operators currently offer 4D and Toto, Singapore Turf Club also accepts horse racing wagers, whereas Singapore Pools quote odds on football and motor racing events.
For the time being, the Singapore Pools website gives players an opportunity to view current odds on latest sporting events, but bets can only be placed either over the phone or in retail shops.
Having partnered with world-famous betting platform provider OpenBet, Singapore Pools hope they will receive positive news in the coming days and seriously improve their customers’ gambling experience, making it a lot easier for them to place their wagers.
